I, after all, was providing for all her needs as well as a good loving home. Then one day I was walking through the SPCA and came across Casha. I knew that this was Isis' littermate as I knew that she had one named Casha, the age and that they looked the same. I was horrified to see her there and the condition that she was in!!! I began talking to responsible dog owners that I knew in hopes of finding Casha a good home. In the meantime I visited her almost everyday. About a week or two later while visiting Casha, I came across their mother Evette. I was heartbroken. Evette was a dog that I had known and loved. I had even in the past tried to convince her owner to give her to me. I was devastated to see her there and hear what had happened to her since the days 5yrs ago when I knew her. It was then that the reality of how I had unwittingly contributed to the current situation hit me. I went home and cried and then tried to do whatever I could to make life better for Eve and Casha, which at this point was little. I am so grateful and thankfull for rescue's and the fact that because of rescue's these two dogs close to my heart now have the homes they deserved from the beginging!!! I will never have a dog that is not a rescue again!*!*TammyAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17097069710295753927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151565208763783432.post-13399985824740423402010-12-18T20:04:24.134-08:002010-12-18T20:04:24.134-08:00Thank dog, people like you are willing to speak up...Thank dog, people like you are willing to speak up on behalf of dogs everywhere. One can only hope that anyone wanting a new companion would head to local shelters and take that leap of faith. There's enough family and friends' dogs who give testament to the fact that good dogs abound in shelters and rescue groups...Scout, Libby, Olive, Daisy, Casper, Salty, Casha, Merrick, Matea, Morley (and Indy, Lincoln, Bez from people who needed to find a home for them). These dogs were not just the luck of the draw. These were good dogs to begin with who needed a loving home to help them realize their potential.Barbhttp://www.greenwellies.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151565208763783432.post-30380467526183309622010-12-18T14:55:41.983-08:002010-12-18T14:55:41.983-08:00hear, hear! and if you want to see what a few mon...hear, hear! and if you want to see what a few months, some love and guidance, confidence building and socializing, not to mention good diet, can do for a dog, check out this link to see Merrick today (well, yesterday):
http://scruffydogphotography.com/blog/index.php/2010/12/18/merricks-first-winter-shoot-ontario-pet-exclusive-photographer/
... he looks like a completely different dog!

on my booking form i ask clients where they acquired their dog ... alas, the greater number still seems to be "breeder" vs. shelter. and i get sick to my stomach whenever i'm told: "we got her from a really nice farm." oh yeah, probably a mennonite puppy mill! (80% of puppy mills in Ontario are run by mennonite ... but please know that i'm not blasting all mennonites!) ... and then they wonder why the dog has complete hip dysplasia at 2 yrs of age.

good post, Emily.scruffy dog photographyhttp://www.scruffydogphotography.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5151565208763783432.post-12736911264212975862010-12-18T12:32:52.823-08:002010-12-18T12:32:52.823-08:00Well said babe, I think of the situation with Oliv...Well said babe, I think of the situation with Olive and her siblings as well - Olive got lucky with us, but where did the rest of her litter wind up?

All dog breeding is essentially an unregulated business that - because it is rampant and what aspects are regulated are seriously underfunded - is costing society both monetarily as well as morally. I'm sure legitimate breeders are just as eager to find a solution to correcting the problem of backyard breeding as well as those in rescue.wonderbrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16456467360386094732noreply@blogger.com
